VENUS Conjoined MARS: Astrology Aspects Series

VENUS Conjoined MARS: Astrology Aspects Series

Guest author: Arwynne O’Neill  –   Published: February 2024

Today we’re going to be talking about an aspect that’s coming up on February 22, 2024. Mars and Venus are going to be conjunct in Aquarius at 9°.

Venus Conjoined Mars in Transit

This aspect occurs once a year. Since both Venus and Mars move pretty quickly, we’ll only feel the effects around this date, but we can expect to feel a heightened sense of excitement in relationships because both Venus and Mars are relationship planets. Aquarius is a bit more cold, detached and intellectual as an air sign, so it’s not going to be super fireworksy. That being said, it’s probably a great time to get to know somebody new or to reconnect with a partner with whom you share common interests and do something intellectually stimulating together.

Venus Conjoined Mars in the Natal Chart

People with Venus conjunct Mars are described as temperamental and competitive, with an independent, adventurous streak. Often in childhood they feel more connected to the parent of the opposite sex and this is because the blending of male and female energies is heightened when Venus is conjunct Mars, especially when it’s in an air sign like Aquarius where it can be more remote and unconventional then it would be in a different sign.

Depending on how tight the conjunction is, either Venus or Mars might be stronger in the chart. So you want to look at other aspects those planets make. If it’s a tight conjunction, they will act as one super-planet. Any aspects that happen to one will happen to the other and any transits from other planets will affect both Venus and Mars at the same time. If it’s a wider conjunction, say five degrees or more, one of the planets might dominate. For example, Venus might also be opposite Uranus, but not Mars, which would give a very different flavor and add a touch of unexpected, disruptive energy to the personality.

Sexual relationships always play an important part when Venus and Mars are conjunct and these people can be somewhat hedonistic, temperamental and inconsiderate of others in their pursuits of pleasure or their own self-interest in a relationship.

In the excellent book “Aspects in Astrology: A Comprehensive Guide to Interpretation,” Sue Tompkins gives some key phrases for Venus-Mars aspects. They are characterized as the romantic adventurer, love and competition, romantic triangles, sexual love, assertion and compromise, putting energy into beauty, and fighting for money.

She says these people radiate personality and Mars gives vigor to Venus, while Venus softens Mars in the chart, regardless of what sign they’re in. This is a highly creative combination and depending on what sign it’s in, that can indicate how their creativity plays out. She gives the example of Venus and Mars in Taurus being interested in fabrics and textiles, and a talent for working with their hands. Presumably Aquarius would suggest a more intellectual, technological or even abstract and mathematical or digital creativity.

She also stresses the competitive nature of this aspect and says there is frequently a love for or pursuit of money and an appreciation for the finer things, and an enhanced ambition for acquisition.

Venus in Aquarius

Steven Arroyo, in “Person to Person Astrology,” describes Venus in Aquarius as expressing affection freely, unconventionally, flirtatiously, humorously and experimentally. They are individualistic, detached and rebellious. They love exchanging theories and ideas and need to be actively social with many people in order to give fully of their emotional nature.

Mars in Aquarius

These people assert themselves intelligently, individualistically, eccentrically and independently. Achievement of goals can be thwarted by rebelliousness but their revolutionizing urges can be channeled into creative innovations. Aquarius is one of the most loyal signs but they also need to be intellectually stimulated in order to stay interested in anything, relationships included. If they lose interest they’re more likely to become emotionally detatched than to actually be unfaithful.

SUN Conjoined SATURN: Astrology Aspects Series

SUN Conjoined SATURN: Astrology Aspects Series

Guest writer: Arwynne O’Neill   –   Published: February 2024

Sun Conjunct Saturn

The Sun and Saturn will be conjunct at 9° Pisces on February 28, 2024. This is an aspect that occurs once a year since the Sun goes through each sign for one month, and Saturn has a 30-year orbit so it spends about two and a half years in each sign, give or take a couple of retrograde periods. Dates for the last 80 years are listed below so you can find your Saturn placement if you don’t know it.

This is a hard-working and somewhat somber transit but it can also be very rewarding if you’ve been working hard. This can be a time when your hard work pays off, where you can achieve long-term goals or prove yourself to others through determined effort. On the negative side, you might find that your desire to assert your individuality or autonomy could be hindered or limited by this transit of Saturn.

sun-conjoined-saturn-chart

Sun conjunct Saturn in the natal chart

This is pretty universally described as a challenging aspect to have in childhood. Most of the books describe this as an aspect of painful self-awareness, pessimism and potential depression. A difficult childhood with possibly harsh, disciplinarian parents or very conservative. Maybe the child had to work very hard, either in school or by actually joining the workforce at an early age. They’re often very serious or even melancholy and emotionally withdrawn. The conjunction in Pisces would certainly amplify that emotional melancholy and depressive nature.

Sue Tompkins, in her wonderful book “Aspects in Astrology,” says this aspect is characterized by self-denial, self-discipline, self-control, self-defense. Other keywords are the importance of authority, illumination of fears and the importance of time because of course Saturn is the planet of time, and the awareness of restrictions and limitations.

She goes on to say when Saturn touches any planet in the natal chart, the person tends to crave the things that planet represents, and when it’s the Sun, people with this aspect yearn to be considered important because they believe or fear that they’re really insignificant, and those feelings start in early childhood. Sun-Saturn children often do not feel a strong sense of their own importance; for some reason they feel their uniqueness and individuality were not recognized, reinforced or accepted. Their tough exterior can mask a desperately sensitive inner life, which may express itself in long-form creative writing, world-building or caring professions, especially those that are emotionally challenging for others. They may be excellent helpers and healers but not particularly nurturing one-on-one.

In adulthood, this aspect is described as conservative, disciplined, ambitious, solitary, hard-working, and often exhibiting a dark sense of humor. They can be trustworthy, good mentors, dependable and often very successful in the long term. Someone you want on your side in the zombie apocalypse or tax season!

They can often become exhibitionists or obsessed with their self-importance because of this perceived repression. So what may start out as an inferiority complex can go to the other extreme where they have a grandiose sense of their own importance in adulthood because they’ve had to carve their personality out of the rough rocks of austerity.

Saturn in Pisces keywords

Spiritual dedication, deep emotions or being an emotional “rock,” limiting beliefs, conservatism or austerity, dogmatism, transformation through hard work, old souls.

Venus Square Chiron

Venus Square Chiron

Venus square Chiron

On February 5, 2024, Venus squares Chiron. Venus is going to be at 16° Capricorn and Chiron is at 16° Aries so this is a square in the cardinal signs.

We all pretty much know what Venus means; it’s the goddess of love, it’s about relationships, it’s about beauty, and it’s also about money. But fewer people know what Chiron is.

Listen to podcast episode >>> Venus Square Chiron

Chiron

Chiron was a centaur in Greek mythology and in astrology it represents the wounded healer. So wherever you have Chiron in your chart — its sign placement and the house it’s in — is where you may experience a psychological wound that enables you to grow stronger in whatever area it symbolizes, and help others because of the pain that you’ve overcome in your own life.

We’ve done an entire episode on Chiron in Aries because that’s where I have Chiron. I am going to be having my Chiron return over the next year or so, which is an aspect everybody has around the age of 50. So if you want to know more about Chiron in Aries, you should definitely listen to that episode.

Listen >>> Chiron Returns

The Transit

When we have Venus Square Chiron, this can create a lot of inner tension that can be really painful for people. It can make you feel like you’re being emotionally abused, bullied or taken advantage of. It can make you feel trapped in your relationships or like you are being sabotaged. You can feel as though you want to help people but they just lash out at you and there can be a lot of self-criticism and overstepping of boundaries with this aspect.

If you’re in a relationship that has a lot of emotional conflict it could become heightened around this time, and if you are in a relationship where one of you has set yourself up as sort of the protector or the savior of the other, things could really become tense at this time.

Venus square Chiron in the Birth Chart

In the natal chart this aspect can create a lot of tension within a person’s relationships. They may continually attract or be attracted to people who are bad for them, emotionally damaged, emotionally unavailable and this can really hurt their self-esteem in a number of ways.

This is often because they think they can heal or save the other person and can they end up getting dragged down Into the depths themselves. They often romanticize romantic pain, which is also great for art but not a great approach to relationships in general, and they can feel inadequate, like they deserve criticism, or they can become addicted to emotional pain in relationships, at sort of the most extreme end of the spectrum.

Of course the reason we’re focusing on the negative is because with the square aspect you are really going to see more of the sort of the negative side than if they had, for example, Venus trine or sextile Chiron, which maybe would make them a great nurse or caregiver or something.

Artistic Outlets

Since Venus rules artistic pursuits, a lot of that pain can be used to create amazing music and art, which we often see with harsh Venus aspects but that doesn’t make it any more fun for the person with the aspect. They can be very sensitive to the opinions of others and they can go overboard in analyzing every little detail of their relationships, either criticizing the other person or trying to save the other person, or becoming enmeshed in bad habits and dangerous, toxic behaviors because they fall in love with either the wrong person or they find themselves attracted to that dark side.

Sun Conjunct Pluto

On January 20th, 2024 the Sun is going to be conjunct Pluto at 29° Capricorn. This is the last major aspect that Pluto makes in Capricorn as the Sun and Pluto both move into Aquarius the next day. Pluto’s final transit into Aquarius comes in November, after a brief retrograde this fall.

So we’re going to talk a bit about what you can expect from this transit, then what it looks like in your natal chart and then we’ll have some celebrity examples.

Listen to episode >>> Sun Conjunct Pluto

The Sun Conjunct Pluto in Transit

This transit happens once a year, so next time the Sun and Pluto are conjunct in January 2025, they’ll be in Aquarius.

As we’ve said before, anytime Pluto connects with a personal planet and the Sun is about as personal as it gets, we can expect to feel its effects. They won’t really not long lasting because the sun moves pretty quickly, but it’s about a day or so. Of course, if you have the sun in Capricorn you will have been experiencing the Pluto conjunction for a while and if you have it at 29° Capricorn that aspect will be exact on January 20, so all of this will apply to you in a big way.

The Sun conjunct Pluto in transit can dramatically increase your desire for power and your ability to influence outcomes in your life. You may feel this heightened intensity within yourself or you could observe it around you, and it could lead to power struggles. You may become controlling and manipulative towards other people or you may begin to feel paranoid, as if hidden enemies were plotting against you, but this is probably not how most people will experience this transit.

A more productive use of these energies would be conducting research and investigatimg mysteries or deep instrospection. You may be able to get to the bottom of psychological issues at this time because this transit can bring about the sort of obsessive behavior that’s obviously beneficial if you’re investigating anything.

Some dramatic or upsetting events may occur, especially involving power struggles and reversals of fortune, the mighty being brought down by hidden secrets coming to light or abuses of power being exposed.

In your life this would be a good time to excavate, investigate, and eliminate… That could be as simple as de-cluttering, getting rid of anything that’s getting in your way and no longer serving you, and this could include relationships or work that’s unfulfilling and anything else that you have outgrown and that’s holding you back. You have access to extra reserves of power at this time that you should try to make use of, in the form of both willpower and the will to power.

The Sun Conjunct Pluto in the Birth Chart

People with the Sun conjunct Pluto in their charts can be profoundly intense people, they can wield great power and influence but they could also be subject to powerful forces and those forces can either destroy them or make them stronger. They can be incredibly ambitious people with a great deal of willpower and a probing, piercing nature that can come across as overbearing.

They can read people very well and get to the bottom of matters because they are excellent researchers they have very political minds, so they can be very effective leaders. They value their privacy, and they can even come across as mysterious or paranoid. They can also get embroiled in decadent, self-destructive behaviors, ruthless power struggles and manipulation of others. They are often attracted to the dark side, or the Underworld, which may include addictions, criminal activities, etc. But they can also become great investigators or go up against the powers that be and bring about change from revolutionary or investigative activities.

Celebrities and Historical Figures with the Sun Conjunct Pluto

And you can really see this in some of our celebrity examples. Artists with this aspect are often instrumental in creating art, movies and literature exploring the relationship between power and the powerless.

Celebrities with Sun conjunct Pluto:

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Martha Stewart, Steve Wozniak, Mick Jagger, Emmet Till, Alan Turing, Hunter S. Thompson, Hulk Hogan, Lance Armstrong, Victor Hugo, Charlie Sheen, Tim Burton, Jada Pinkett Smith and Emperor Nero.

Aries: BadAss Goddesses Amazons

The Amazons were a tribe of warrior women from Greek mythology, who lived in what is now Ukraine. Most famous among them were queen Penthesilea, who fought in the Trojan War, and her sister Hippolyta. No men were allowed among the Amazons, so they maintained their numbers through annual visits to a nearby tribe of male warriors. Baby girls resulting from these encounters were raised as fierce warriors, while male babies were either returned to the village of their fathers or left to die in the elements. (Alternatively, the Valkyeries)

Taurus: BadAss Goddess Watamaraka

Lightning and thunder herald the arrival of Watamaraka, the Zulu goddess of evil, at the temple where she rules over the Land of Darkness. She is the mother of all the world’s demons, and her mate, Burumatara, is their father—a half-bull, half-crocodile creature the size of an elephant.

Gemini: BadAss Goddesses Ta’xet and Tia

Ta’xet and Tia: The Haida of the Queen Charlotte Islands in Western Canada have a death god duality called Ta’xet and Tia who guard the portal between life and death, through which all humans must pass to reach the realm of the afterlife. Ta’xet is the god of violent death, and Tia is the god of peaceful passing.

Cancer: BadAss Goddess Gaia

Gaia is the personification of the Earth, and one of the first Greek deities born from the void of Chaos. She is the mother of the Titans, who preceded the gods of Mount Olympus. Her offspring, Cronus and Rhea, were the parents of Zeus, who eventually overthrew the Titans and became the king of the gods.

Leo: BadAss Goddess Bastet

Bastet is the Egyptian cat goddess, originally worshiped in the form of a lion. Her status grew as cats were domesticated and her cult spread to Italy, where her symbols and statuary have been found in the ruins of ancient Rome and Pompeii.

Virgo: BadAss Goddess Artemis

Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, twin of Apollo and daughter of Zeus and Leto. Artemis rules the moon and childbirth, motherhood and virginity, wild animals and hunters. She took an oath of chastity and defended it with deadly force when necessary. A hunter who happened upon her bathing in the river was turned into a deer for his transgression. She was just as fierce at defending her virginal followers and meting out swift punishment to those who threatened them.

Libra: BadAss Goddess Venus

Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty, and the ruler of Libra. She was born of the ocean foam rising from the severed testicles of the god Uranus. She is the epitome of feminine charm, gorgeous and irresistible, but also vain and faithless, prone to jealous rage and capricious violence. By the numbers, her legacy of lovers is dwarfed by the victims left in her… ahem, wake. The beautiful boy who didn’t return her affection, turned into a crab. An entire island’s women, struck blind. Love hurts.

Scorpio: BadAss Goddess Serket

Serket is the ancient Egyptian goddess of magic and medicine, and the ruler of poisonous creatures. She specialized in curing the venomous stings of spiders, snakes, and especially scorpions, which are her totem. She embodies both the venom and its antidote. Serket was the chosen patroness of many pharaohs, and their protector in the afterlife.

Sagittarius: BadAss Goddess Ayao

Ayao is a Yoruba goddess in the Santería pantheon and an Orisha, or spirit of the air. She resides in the forest and in the eye of the tornado. She is a fierce warrior who wields many weapons, including a crossbow, a serpent, a quill and nine stones. (Alternatively, the Amazons)

Capricorn: BadAss Goddess Estanatlehi

Estanatlehi is the Navaho and Apache goddess of time, creation, transformation and immortality known as the Changing Woman. As an old woman she walks toward the east until she sees her younger self coming towards her, then she merges with herself, becoming young again. She progresses through an endless stream of lives, always changing and renewing but never dying. (Alternatively, Medusa)

Aquarius: Goddess Sedna

Sedna is the vengeful Inuit goddess of the sea, worshiped by hunters and fishermen who depend on her for their livelihood. As a beautiful maiden, Sedna rejected many suitors until a deceitful god tricked her into marriage. Her father sailed to her rescue, but was so terrified by her husband’s wrath that he threw Sedna overboard and cut off her fingers to prevent her from climbing back into the boat. She sank to the bottom where she was adopted as the protector of all the ocean’s creatures.

Pisces: BadAss Goddess Meng-Po

Meng-Po, Buddhist Lady Meng (whose name means “Dream”) is the goddess who guards the door of the Ninth Chinese Hell, where she dishes out a mystic brew for the souls of the dead to drink. Her potion makes them lose all memories of their previous lives, which ensures that everyone is reborn with a clean slate. The only thing a soul carries from one incarnation to the next is its Karma, kind of like spiritual metadata.
